About the Sarracenia Carnivorous Plant

The Sarracenia is a carnivorous plant. It produces a nectar laced with poison that intoxicates vising insects. Insects are attracted to its colourful pitchers, but once entering, downwards facing hairs trap them withing the plant. The plant enzymes then digests the insect.

Sarracenia is a carnivorous pitcher plant that originates from North America, most commonly found around the southeastern coastal plains. They are fly catches by nature and really easy for beginner gardeners to grow and care for under the right conditions. Pitcher plants grow in low-nutrient water-logged soils, so can handle the living conditions a glass vase will offer. They get the nutrients they need from catching prey, minimising the need to feed your plant. They do require acidic water though to thrive as tap water will produce a negative build-up of minerals.

How to water

During growing season, because the Sarracenia grows in water-logged, bog conditions you'll want to keep the soil permanently moist for your plant to remain healthy. Avoid getting water inside the pitchers.

During the colder resting period, you'll need to adjust your watering schedule to avoid over watering and rotting the roots. 

Light Conditions

This sun loving plant will need a good supply of sunlight. Style in a space where it will have access to bright, full sun. To really thrive, it will want direct sunlight, but you could keep it on a very bright east of west facing windowsill as a last resort.

In the winter resting period, normally between November and February, these pitchers like to be cold. Try to avoid placing near any heat source to allow your plant to stay cool, like near a window or in a shed. 

Soil Conditions

The best soil for a Sarracenia is Loam. It should poorly drain to create the water-logged conditions of a natural bog habitat. An acidic potting medium should be used with moss.

Seasonal Information 

The Sarracenia is a semi-evergreen foliage that you can expect to last for between 2-5 years. It retains colour throughout the year, but may loose some colour during die-back in winter dormancy. 

The Winter dormancy tends to last between November and February. As the winter dormancy period ends each year, you can divide your plant if required.

Orders under £40 incur a £2.99 delivery fee. All orders £40 or more are delivered free of charge.

Delivery Times

Standard delivery time is 3-5 working days but in a lot of cases this will be significantly shorter as we aim to dispatch products within 24 hours of you placing the order.

The Couriers

We are proud to be working with the best couriers in the country. When it comes to fast delivery and customer service we cant be beat.

We use two carriers for delivery depending on the products being shipped. The majority of our orders are shipped via DPD on their premium service. Please leave a mobile number when placing your order so you are able to receive sms updates. If your order is shipped with DPD you will receive a 1 hour time slot.

The other carrier we use is Tuffnells. This is normally for large products that come on a pallet.

If your order is delivered on a pallet the driver is not expected to take the pallet back with them.

SOME PRODUCTS WE SHIP ARE CONSIDERED FRAGILE GOODS, FOR THIS REASON WE ASK THAT YOU PLEASE INSPECT ORDERS UPON DELIVERY AND SIGN 'DAMAGED' IF THE PRODUCT IS DAMAGED IN ANYWAY.

 

Returns Policy

Changing your mind?

If your return is within our policy below please contact us at enquiries@gardenesque.com to arrange a return/refund/exchange

Our returns policy lasts 30 days if you change your mind. If 30 days have gone by since your purchase, unfortunately we can’t offer you a refund or exchange.

To be eligible for a return, your item must be unused and in the same condition that you received it. It must also be in the original packaging.

To complete your return, we require a receipt or proof of purchase.

Please do not send your purchase back to the manufacturer.

PLEASE NOTE - If you want to return your order and it isnt damaged or faulty we would ask that you send it back to us. We can of course arrange a collection for you but the cost of return would come out of the refunded total. Please see below for returns charges for non faulty items.

Boxes / Cartons - £6.50

Palletised Goods - £24

These costs are in place to simply cover the cost of the return and you are more than welcome to arrange delivery of your order back yourself.

 

There are certain situations where only partial refunds are granted (if applicable)

  • Any item not in its original condition, is damaged or missing parts for reasons not due to our error
  • Any item that is returned more than 30 days after delivery

If you are approved, then your refund will be processed, and a credit will automatically be applied to your credit card or original method of payment, within a certain amount of days.

 

Late or missing refunds

If you haven’t received a refund yet, first check your bank account again.

Then contact your credit card company, it may take some time before your refund is officially posted.

Next contact your bank. There is often some processing time before a refund is posted.

Sale items

Only regular priced items may be refunded, unfortunately sale items cannot be refunded.

 

Exchanges

We only replace items if they are defective or damaged.  If you need to exchange it for the same item, send us an email at enquiries@gardenesque.com and we will arrange a return for you

 

Gifts

If the item was marked as a gift when purchased and shipped directly to you, you’ll receive a gift credit for the value of your return. Once the returned item is received, a gift certificate will be emailed to you.

If the item wasn’t marked as a gift when purchased, or the gift giver had the order shipped to themselves to give to you later, we will send a refund to the gift giver and he will find out about your return.

 

Shipping

To return your product, you should email enquiries@gardenesque.com and we will help arrange a collection for you.

You will be responsible for paying for your own shipping costs for returning your item. Shipping costs are non-refundable. If you receive a refund and we have arranged the return, the cost of return shipping will be deducted from your refund.

Depending on where you live, the time it may take for your exchanged product to reach you, may vary.

If you are shipping an item over £20, you should consider using a trackable shipping service or purchasing shipping insurance. We don’t guarantee that we will receive your returned items

 

Terms of Returns

For our couriers to collect the items the must be dismantled if furniture and re boxed if its a pot or fire pit. Unfortunately our couriers will not collect assembled items
