About the Author

Emily is the founder of Emily Joy Garden Design, a Yorkshire-based garden design studio creating thoughtful outdoor spaces inspired by nature, local landscapes and the way people live. With a lifelong passion for horticulture and a background influenced by a family of florists, Emily brings together creative planting, practical design and a deep appreciation for gardens that evolve beautifully over time.

Since establishing her studio in 2023, Emily has built a reputation for designing elegant, characterful gardens across Yorkshire and beyond. Working with homeowners, architects, developers and landscapers, her collaborative approach and in-house planting expertise ensure each project is carefully considered from concept through to completion.

In 2026, Emily Joy Garden Design was awarded a Silver Medal at the RHS Sandringham Flower Show for the Gardens on the Edge feature, recognised for its celebration of the Suffolk landscape through structural silver birch trees and climate-resilient planting.

Emily regularly shares her knowledge and passion for garden design through expert advice on planting, outdoor living and creating gardens that are both beautiful and functional.

Expert’s Choice

If I had to pick a favourite from Gardenesque, it would actually be two…sorry! I absolutely love the Ecopots troughs because they’re lightweight enough to move around, making it so easy to switch up a space depending on the occasion or simply the mood I’m in. It’s a really quick way to refresh the garden without having to redesign the whole space.

I’ve also been loving the Stanley All-Weather Wicker Casual Dining Set. It’s become one of the most-used pieces in my garden because it’s just so versatile – I use it for everything from my morning coffee and lunch outside to working in the sunshine. It’s incredibly comfortable, and I love the rope detailing, which adds a lovely texture and fits perfectly into the cosy cottage corner of my garden.
