A large terracotta garden planter designed for trees, topiary and statement shrubs, the Clayton Antique Pot captures the character of an established garden from the moment it arrives. Handcrafted and frostproof with a single drainage hole, each planter combines enduring performance with timeless design. Rich earthy tones, subtle surface variation and an antique finish create the appearance of a planter that has been shaped by years spent outdoors.

Design Features

The Clayton Ancient Terracotta Pot takes the enduring silhouette of our original Clayton planter and pairs it with a rich antique finish inspired by the character of long-established gardens. Warm earthy tones and naturally aged detailing give each piece the appearance of a planter that has long been part of the landscape.

Available in a range of large and extra-large sizes, the classic conical shape of the Clayton Terracotta Pot provides generous planting space for healthy root systems, suitable for trees, shrubs and statement floral displays. Its gently tapered profile offers stability, whilst the classic double-ridge detailing creates a timeless silhouette suited to both traditional and contemporary gardens.

The antique finish enhances the character of every planter, with natural variations in tone and surface detail ensuring no two are exactly alike. A drainage hole at the base encourages healthy root growth and helps prevent waterlogging, making Clayton Ancient as practical as it is beautiful.

Whether positioned beside a front door, framing a pathway or anchoring a terrace planting scheme, Clayton Ancient brings a sense of age, structure and permanence to the garden.

Materials

Handcrafted using traditional kiln-firing techniques, the Clayton Ancient Pot is made from high-quality frostproof terracotta designed to withstand the changing British seasons. The natural clay body remains breathable, helping to support healthy plant growth, whilst the antique finish highlights the texture and character of the terracotta.

Naturally breathable, terracotta allows air and moisture to move through the clay, helping to regulate soil conditions and reduce the risk of overwatering. During warmer weather, the porous clay also helps keep roots cooler, creating a healthier environment for plants throughout the growing season.

Rich in natural variation, each planter develops even greater depth and individuality over time, sitting beautifully alongside the wider Ancient Collection and gardens that favour a more established, timeless aesthetic.

Designed for year-round outdoor use, the Clayton Extra Large Terracotta Pot is built to endure all seasons. To maintain its structural integrity, we recommend using pot feet to aid drainage and prevent moisture retention. In freezing conditions, adding a layer of gravel or broken terracotta at the base before planting helps prevent waterlogging and root rot. For best results, pair with well-draining compost to support healthy plant growth.
